The Best (and Worst) Luxury Consignment Stores

The Best (and Worst) Luxury Consignment Stores
Lindsay Lee

Buying designer goods might give you sticker stock, especially from online stores. Luckily, online designer consignment stores have become a lot more popular and regulated. You can find your favorite styles from a few years ago or find a limited edition piece you never knew existed. Let's take a look at some of the best and worst designer consignment options.

Yoogi's Closetconsign yogies

Yoogi's Closet continues to land on my favorite list because of their transparency and pricing. They offer 100% guaranteed authenticity, 30-day hassle free returns, and free gift wrapping. The selection is always vast without being overwhelming. For the ultimate fashion fans, the best part is that they list the year and season, along with a very detailed description of the product condition. For selling, their process is just as easy. Fill out some forms, send in the item for review, and get a quote. Shipping is free, payment is fast, and the offers are always fair. Don't forget to sign up for their email list to get 10% off your next purchase!

Bag, Borrow, or Steal

What initially started off as a rental service, as featured on Sex & The City Movie, has now turned into a full-blown consignment shop. Compared to other stores, the prices at Bag, Borrow, or Steal seem on the high end. The focus also seems to be on bridge and contemporary designers, rather than high-end styles. Although the pictures are clear, the description doesn't offer many product details on condition. While the borrowing aspect of the store is a great value, I would steer clear of purchasing.

Snob Swap

Their motto at Snob Swap is easy as Swap, Sell, Shop, Save. This newer consignment store has their own listings, as well as user-generated listings, which means there is not a consistency within listings. Pricing seems to be fair and in line with other consignment stores. Although you have to create an account to sell and shop, the saving grace is their selection. They have many limited edition and hard-to-find pieces that other stores don't have. This store is very serious about fakes and will ban any users participating in selling such merchandise.

Malleries

Malleries is the original designer consignment super store. They sell everything from antiques to handbags and jewelry to men's apparel. They boast the largest selection and don't let down! Unfortunately, the selection can be a little overwhelming for first-time shoppers. They also leave up newly sold merchandise, which can be frustrating when you find what you want and then realize that it's sold. Overall, they have all the bases covered in terms of authenticity and safe shopping. Their selection is what keeps customers coming back, but you should know that there is no quick shopping here.

The Real Real

The Real Real is a new favorite for a lot of luxury shoppers. Each day, they feature curated selections of designers and styles. You can shop their collections, by category, or by designer. There is more of a focus on clothing, shoes, and accessories, although they offer art and fine jewelry. To say that prices are fair is an understatement, as you can easily find Prada skirts for under $50. You must create an account to sell or shop, but it's very much worth it.

Porteroconsign portero

For the ultimate in luxury, Portero is your place to go. Their Portero Promise offers guaranteed authenticity, condition as described, and secure shopping. They focus on brands such as Chanel, Hermes, and Cartier, meaning that there aren't many budget offerings here. However, that's not to say that you can't get a great value. Many of their offerings are in very good or excellent condition. They only sell the best of the best. This also means that standards for selling merchandise are very high. In total, Portero is a great option for a serious investment item.

With all of these options, you can easily find the bag, shoes, or jewelry of your dreams! Before purchasing, just be sure that you read all of the details carefully. You'll want to feel secure about condition, authenticity, and the return policy. With these guidelines, you can shop pre-owned luxury with ease!
