My kids all enjoy playing video games. But I don't enjoy the messes these gamers leave behind.
You might think that a video game is a relatively tidy form of amusement. After all, there's nothing to spill; there aren't hundreds of tiny pieces; they don't take up a lot of space. So it's not like there's Play-Doh sticking to my rug, Legos trying to burrow into the bottom of my feet, or an enormous layout of train tracks tripping up anyone who walks into the room. Compared to those, video games are neat!
But the controllers and game CDs wind up all over the family room. I provided one basket for games and another for controllers, but no one remembers to put away what they take out. Make no mistake about it: Wii nunchuks are not comfortable to sit on. And game CDs left outside their protective cases tend to get scratched and dirty. We've had more than one game ruined that way.
I'm thinking that I might find one of those shallow under-the-bed storage boxes and stash it under the couch. This way, no one will even have to stand up to put away their game stuff.

Never had a console in the house when I was a kid.
Was stuck playing a display model at K-Mart.
