My little boy has declared that he's outgrown his buzz cut. 
I love the convenience of buzz cuts for small boys. I don't know any boy who will agree to stand still while his hair is combed every morning, much less take responsibility for combing his own hair. And buzz cuts are so easy--no brushing or combing required, and it's so simple to wash out the shampoo. In summer, a buzz cut makes it a snap to check for ticks, as well.
But my seven-year-old doesn't want a buzz cut anymore. He wants to grow out his very thick hair, cowlicks and all. That's going to mean a daily battle with combs and detanglers. And as the weather gets colder, I start to wonder: if a seven-year-old boy is going to wear a hat to school anyway, is there any point in trying to hold him down long enough in the morning to neatly comb his hair?
Maybe after a few weeks of this, he'll see the error of his ways and let me take him back to the barbershop.
