The Peruvian Connection began with a fresh-faced 19-year-old girl named Annie Hurlbut. She was studying anthropology in Peru and went to the market one day. She fell madly in love with the hand-woven alpaca mantas, the colorful ponchos and the intricately-patterned sweaters. She took one of those sweaters home to her mother and it became the talk of their small Kansas town. Soon, the mother-and-daughter team were importing them and the business exploded around the country. Today, they still maintain that intimate connection to the artisans in Peru, bringing their unique clothing designs to the rest of the world.
