Five Below: Fun Buys for $5 or Less
Have you shopped at Five Below, yet? I discovered the store last year when two locations opened up within driving distance. Each one threw such a huge grand opening party (complete with a DJ, five-cent hot dogs and free giveaways) I just had to check them out. I wasn't disappointed and it's become one of my favorite places to shop.
Five Below is a specialty store where everything is priced at five dollars or less. The chain opened its first store in Wayne, Pennsylvania back in 2002. There are now more than 330 locations in nineteen states and they're showing no signs of slowing down! It seems like each time I open the Sunday paper, their flier is boasting new locations.
Unlike most dollar or discount stores, Five Below does not sell groceries or cleaning products. What you will find is pretty much everything else, including sports equipment, toys, apparel and accessories, room décor, party goods, stationery, phone and music accessories, books, DVDs, novelty items, seasonal decor and much more.
Also unlike most dollar stores, its products are geared for kids and teens. But don't let that fact drive you away! Five Below carries plenty of great items for the whole family, just with a fun, trendy flair. Trust me, you won't find anything boring or run-of-the-mill in this store. The chain focuses on what appeals to the younger demographic so they can stay on top of the latest trends in family movies, TV shows, music, games and other fun stuff.
Five Below carries a wide variety of products from brands including Disney, Crayola, iPhone, Galaxy, Soffe and Spalding – just to name a few. Plus, they're always adding new popular brands and items. I am always amazed at the fun things I find for just $5, like the Frozen tee shirts for my niece (in a design we'd never seen before!) or my TokiDoki laptop sleeve. Elsewhere? $10 and up. Like I said, amazing.
Five Below also carries many other brands that you may not be familiar with, but in my experience are are great quality products for the price. Most are comparable to items you'd find at larger discount chains, or even major department stores. Don't just take my word for it, though! Shop with care and use your best judgement. And, of course, if you find a product that you'd normally purchase somewhere else, be sure check out all the product details (e.g., size, quantity, material) of the cheaper version before you deem it a deal.
How to Shop
If you see it, and you like it, then you'd better grab it! Part of the fun of shopping at Five Below is that you never quite know what you'll come across while shopping. Or if it will be there next time. In order to stay on top of the latest trends, the store regularly updates its inventory. If there is a product that consistently sells well, then it will most likely stay in-stock for a while. Other items are stocked in a limited supply on purpose. Seasonal items definitely fall into the latter category, but apparel, accessories, electronics and décor are among the other areas where you'll always find something new.
I've made a point to visit all four locations that are within my area, just to compare selection. (Yes, I'm that dedicated.) I've found that each one varies in its selection of products and product designs. So that means you may get items at your local Five Below that no one else will!
