How to Find the Deals and Freebies You're Missing on Facebook
Millions of people are on Facebook as a way to connect with old classmates, check up on a former flame or just announce to the world what they had for lunch. But it's also a great resource for finding exclusive freebies and deals that you won't find anywhere else. Wondering what kind of deals you can find and how to locate them? We've got some tips for unlocking the frugal side of Facebook.
Follow Bloggers Doing the Hard Work
It's tough to stay on top of your favorite companies' Facebook pages. Thankfully there are faithful and committed bloggers already doing the hard work for their readers. Blog reader Tricia Goss tells us she follows Frugal, Freebies and Deals as well as Frugal Fabulous Finds and Freebies4Mom. Tricia says she keeps tabs on these blogs so she knows when companies are announcing great Facebook freebies and deals. "I've gotten everything from free food coupons-- a dozen eggs, a bag of potato chips, yogurt-- to household products," says Tricia. "I just got a full-size bag of Tide Stain Release in the mail yesterday."
Go to a Company's Facebook Page
If you're heading out to a particular store or need to buy a certain product, visit that company's Facebook page first. Taking this step could save you big bucks because you may discover a coupon code or a printable coupon that will save you money. A great example is Old Navy. Before you head out to shop for some clothing visit the Old Navy Facebook page. Click on the "Hottest Ticket" tab and you'll have access to a Facebook-only coupon that takes 30% off one item.
Check Out Facebook.com/Deals
Late last year Facebook announced the arrival of Facebook.com/Deals, a place that helps you locate deals in your area. Right now the deals are available in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco, but more cities are expected to come online soon. Right now you can sign up to be notified when the program is active in your area. It works kind of like Groupon or Living Social where great discounts are offered at restaurants, museums and fitness classes in your area.
Facebook also recently launched Facebook Places as a way to rival FourSquare. It's a tool that allows you to "check in" wherever you go so your friends know where you are. But it's also a way to score deals. When you check in at a place you'll automatically be able to tell what deals that place is offering. Just click on the deal, show it to the cashier and you'll save money.
Now you should have some fresh, great ideas for how to use Facebook as a money-saving tool. To help you even further here are some great freebies available on Facebook right now. But hurry-- unlike those embarrassing photos your friend uploaded to Facebook last week these deals won't stick around forever!
