Jeans for Under $60

Jeans for Under $60
Taylor Spear

Designer denim is all the rage these days, with fancy pockets, embroidery, high end labels and colored stitching carrying price tags of upwards of $250. Now we like a fine looking pair of jeans as much as the next person, but we have a hard time justifying spending as much on a pair of pants as we would on a week’s worth of groceries. That being said, it doesn’t mean we don’t care about our denim, just that we prefer to keep it in perspective. So, you may be wondering, what’s a good in-between? Jeans that hold their shape and color wash after wash, can be dressed up for a night out, and don’t cost the same as a trip to the orthodontist aren’t all that hard to come by, but we’re happy to help you narrow the playing field. Our current favorite jeans come from American Eagle.  I also found a coupon for American Eagle Jeans for Free shipping on orders of $100+. AE-jeans-slouchyThere you can choose from eight different fits, three different lengths, endless washes, and sizes run from 0 to 18 (the sizes run pretty true as well). Clearly we’re dealing with variety, which is nice when it comes to something that should fit just how you want it to. Their denim is nice as well, mostly cotton with a touch of spandex so the pants have a tiny bit of stretch but not so much they lose the soft, supple feel of jeans. We’re a big fan of the three different lengths, you can order what fits you right off and don’t have to worry about them being too short or getting them hemmed. And you get all this for around $50 a pair – a much more reasonable price point. The other thing that makes jeans shopping at American Eagle easy and fun is their Jean Guide – it’s set up so you can shop by cut, but is incredibly simple to navigate and you don’t have to keep going back to the main “jeans page” to look at a different style. You can even do a side-by-side comparison of two different styles. This makes it a cinch to compare different styles and makes the process of narrowing down your choice a world easier. AE-jeans-staightWe mentioned eight styles and here they are :

  • Jegging
  • Skinny
  • Straight
  • Slouchy
  • Boyfriend
  • Artist
  • Slim Boot
  • Vintage Flare

If you want jeans to wear tucked into boots that fit all the way down the length of your leg, go for jegging or skinny. A straight or boot cut jean that hits at mid-waist is pretty much universally flattering. It creates and longer leg line and both styles are great for everyday; if you want to be able to dress them up, go for a darker wash. The slouchy and artists cuts sit a bit higher on the waist and are roomier through the thigh. If you want a tapered ankle, go for the slouchy--the artist has a very slight flare. Our new favorite style is the vintage flare – the 70’s are popping up this spring in all kinds of ways and they’ve clearly managed to influence denim as well. The flares have a thicker cuff and wider flare than the other options and would look absolutely adorable with flats and a cute tee. They’re also a great jean for the spring and summer since you don’t have to worry about soaking that hem in giant puddles of snow and muck. Put a little thought into buying jeans. That might sound silly, but you’ll get more use out of your purchase if you think about where you’ll wear them, what you need them for, and if you can use them for work and for play. Think about where you’ll wear them. If you’re a busy mom and running after toddlers you’d want a pair with the room to bend up and move; and probably a darker tint to hide the places where your little ones used your leg as a napkin. Maybe work just started a casual Friday and you want a pair of jeans that are fit for the office; go with something more tailored, American Eagle doesn’t have a trouser fit jean, but the slim boot cut is pretty close and if you get the longer inseam they’d look clean and elegant with a pair of heels. Just as a warning, you may get hooked on AE denim. It’s affordable, everyone can find a style that works for her body type, and this promotes the whole look good, feel good dynamic. Head to the comments if you have any questions, we’re always happy to help a gal find that just-right pair of jeans!
