DVD Region Code and Your Discovery Order

A DVD region code identifies DVD's that are compatible with DVD players in certain regions. These codes allow the studios who produce the DVD's to control content, price and even restrict areas where they can be played. Many DVD players sold today are multiregion dvd players, meaning they will play the DVD regardless of the codes. Here's what you should know about the codes on your Discovery purchase.

Discovery DVD's
The majority of the DVD's available at the Discovery Store are coded for Region 1. (Or Region A for Blu-Ray discs). These will generally work in the U.S, U.S. Territories, Canada, Bermuda, Japan, Europe, South Africa and the Middle East. They may also work in Southeast Asia, East Asia, Australia, Pacific Islands, Mexico, Central America, South America, North Korea and the Caribbean.

Blu-Ray DVD's
Blu-Ray DVD's are coded differently. Region A (most of the Blu-Ray's available on Discovery) will play in North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Some of the Blu Ray DVD's available are coded Region B, which will play in Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Australia and Africa.

If you have questions regarding the coding on a purchase you are thinking of making, you should contact customer service for more information.
