When you purchase an RV it will most likely came equipped with an RV screen or awning, or you will have added the accessory to the RV for your comfort. The expense of replacing an awning or screen can be great compared to the simple steps you can take to maintain it. Your manual should be followed when operating and securing your window awnings or solar screens. The care and cleaning of the awning should also be included in the manual for recommended products depending on the material or fabric the screen or awning is made of.
How To Maintain Your RV Awning and Screens
- Avoid water build up, you can use the awnings to shelter you from the rain, but if water is allowed to accumulate you will lose a long life time from the use of the awning
- Secure properly so that wind does not bend or create a sail affect in your awning. In hard winds your awning should never be used to avoid damage
- Keep the material clean and dry, you do not want to end up with annoying and unattractive mildew on your fabric or vinyl awnings or screens
- Lubricate hardware to ensure that rust does not take over and to ensure that all hardware is easily adjusted when opening and retracting the awning
- Replace springs when you feel them getting tight or even too loose, you can save the awning from further damage if the bad springs are replaced immediately
