5 Tips for Installing Your Brakes

Purchasing auto parts like brakes is just the first step, installing them properly is the next step and one which needs to be handled correctly to ensure your safety, as well as the safety of other drivers. Read below to learn about 5 tips which will help you install your brakes correctly. 

# 1 Follow manufacturer’s instructions: Go through the manual
Always read and follow rotor Break-in instructions to make metal stronger and brake pad Bedding-in instructions written in the supplied manufacturer’s manual

#2 Inspection: Inspect the related performance parts for brake pads
Check for rust in caliper contact area, rotor, hub to rotor area and wheel hub.  Take action if buildup is found.

#3 Cleaning: Clean the contact areas.
Clean the related contact areas like brake pad to caliper contact, hub to rotor contact with a 3M pad. Also clean caliper to caliper bracket and caliper bracket to steering-knuckle area.

#4 Lubrication and preparation: Avoid contaminating brake pads by new rotor
Use brake cleaner or water with soap to clean new rotor surfaces. Also inspect caliper sliders, bolts and piston; if found broken or cracked, replace the auto part. Next step is to lubricate the caliper sliders, bolts and hub area.

#5 Installing brake parts: Replace new rotor, brake pad
Install the new rotor and reattach caliper brackets. Clean and lubricate brake pad to caliper bracket areas. Now attach brake pad with caliper brackets without touching brake pad surface. Follow brake pad installation instructions so that it fits into rotor surface with a click sound.
