I remember visiting old-fashioned country stores when I was a kid. These dark places were a treasure trove just waiting to be explored, stuffed from floor to ceiling with everything from barrels full of hard candy to coffee to kerosene and everything you can imagine in between. There was no telling what you could unearth in there. The Vermont Country Store was opened by Vrest and Ellen Orton in Weston, Vermont in 1946, as the country's first restored general store, modeled on the one owned by Vrest's parents back in the 1800s. Still a family-owned business for over five generations, the Vermont Country Store now has two Vermont locations, and a website where everyone across the country can order quality men's and women's apparel, home goods, health and beauty products, toys, gifts, old-fashioned candy, bakery classics, traditional Vermont maple syrup and cheese and much more.
