It was a huge event back in the 1950s when William Amthor got back from another round of world travels. He'd land in Fisherman's Wharf in the city of San Francisco and unload all the furniture and goods he'd procured abroad. People would line up to peruse his one-of-a-kind goods, so much so that he ended up having to rent a 4,000 square foot warehouse on the wharf to sell his goods. It was so successful that he began opening stores around the country, selling handmade goods, unique decor and food from around the globe. Today there are more than 260 stores in 30 different states.
