1. Join the Guest Rewards program
Receive 500 points for joining Amtrak’s Guest Rewards program and travel on Amtrak within 90 days of joining the program. Guest Rewards members earn 2 points per $1 spent on Amtrak travel, and members always earn at least 100 points, no matter the amount spent. Points can also be earned for purchases with Amtrak’s partners including select hotels, car rental agencies, air and travel partners, retail partners, and select financial services agencies. Rewards points can be redeemed for free Amtrak travel, hotel stays, and gift cards to restaurants, movie theatres, car rental companies, and select retailers.

2. Take Advantage of Special Discounts
Amtrak travelers age 62 and older are eligible to receive a 15% discount off the lowest available fare on many trains. Travelers age 60 and older can receive a 10% discount on cross-border services.

Children between the ages of 2 and 12 ride half price daily, while children under 2 years old ride free.

Military personnel along with their dependents and spouses, can receive a 10% discount on most fares. Discounts of up to 50% are available for passengers with disabilities and one traveling companion.

National Association of Railroad Passengers members can save 10% off fare prices. International students with an International Student Identity Card are eligible to receive a 10% discount. Group discounts are also available to parties with over 20 passengers.

3. Enroll in the Veterans Advantage or Students Advantage Program
Students age 16 and older are eligible to join the Student Advantage program. Students can earn 750 Amtrak Guest Rewards points when they join the Student Advantage program and take an Amtrak trip within 90 days of enrolling. Student Advantage members receive a 10% discount off of the best available fare price as well as discounts with Amtrak’s food, retail and entertainment partners. Membership in the Student Rewards program costs $20 per year.

The Veterans Advantage program is available to all veterans, active duty military personnel and their next of kin. A 30 day free trial of the program is available, which can be cancelled at anytime without charge. Enrollees receive 750 bonus points for signing up for the program, provided that they take an Amtrak trip within 90 days of joining the program. Veterans Advantage members receive a 15% discount on adult fares, discounts with Amtrak’s partners, and additional services including free travel insurance and prescription drug discounts.

4. AAA Members Save Even More
AAA members receive a 10% discount off of adult fare prices. Additionally, 2 children (ages 2-12) can travel with each adult member for half off of the AAA member adult fare.
