I mentioned last week that we’re going to my sister’s for Thanksgiving dinner.  She has set a high standard for the meal, with more appetizers than her table can comfortably hold and enough courses to keep every diner happy.  And for the past eight years, she’s been achieving all of this with a less-than-ideal stove.  In her old house, she had a stove that was so big that a huge turkey plus several side dishes could fit in there all at once.  But when she moved, the new house had a less-spacious stove.  That really cramped her Thanksgiving style, though she still managed to serve an amazing meal.  (There was just a lot more juggling involved for her as the cook.)

Last month, though, she got a new stove.  She was really happy about that, because she loves to cook and is very good at it.  Her new stove even has a griddle in the middle, and once again she has a nice big oven.

I told my husband that my sister had replaced her hated, old stove.  He teased, “I don’t know about Thanksgiving then.  After all, this new stove will be untested.  She’s got high standards to live up to.”

My husband doesn’t need to worry.  The first day she got the new stove, she cooked and baked all day.  Her kids came in from a day of school and commented, “It smells like Thanksgiving in here!”
