The other day I spent a lot of time in my kitchen, making my brother’s Legendary Clam Chowder for dinner and some homemade bread to go with it. This would have been better done last week, when it was cool and rainy, but I didn’t get the recipe until the weekend.

I’ve got a small kitchen, and it was getting pretty crowded in that 10X10 room with me chopping potatoes, celery and onions, tending the soup pot and the bread, and kids wandering in and out looking for snacks and drinks. But that worked out–better than the soup did.

Something went very wrong when I made that Legendary Clam Chowder. I followed all the directions just as they were given to me–and these were very specific directions. But the creamy soup never turned creamy. It was delicious, but thin.
