Imagine that you are watching a hot new television show and find yourself falling in love with it (The Voice, perhaps?!) As a consumer from the digital age you want to immediately Tweet about it so your social contacts can check it out, too. A new app called IntoNow makes it simple to share this information by pointing your phone at the TV where it can collect the information for you and provide you with an easy social sharing option. And the app has been improved to assist you in saving money while watching TV, too!
What is IntoNow?
This social TV sharing app is called IntoNow and it is designed to both identify what you are watching and then to link to other sites to get more information and share it with others. You download the iPhone app and then you can point your phone at your TV and it will collect information about whatever you are watching. It works for current shows (and most shows airing in approximately the last five years) and it works whether you are watching the show on TV, on your computer or even on a mobile device. After you get the information you can then follow a link to get additional info from IMDB, add the show to your Netflix queue or share it with others via Facebook or Twitter. The social sharing feature is designed to generate buzz around shows that you might like based on what others in your social circle are watching, helping you to find new shows that might interest you.
What's This about Saving Money?
So this is a cool app but what does it have to do with saving money? What you have to understand is that an app like that is a great asset to advertisers since it provides useful information about who is watching what shows and how much of that information they are sharing with others. As a result advertisers can tailor deals to the audience (that's you!) For example, Pepsi Max just did a promotional deal offering a mobile coupon through IntoNow. When the commercial came on, IntoNow users could point their phones at the screen to get the coupon and then could select whether they would use it at Target or CVS. With this deal customers were able to get a free soda! (Learn more.)
Why bother?
Mobile coupons are increasingly popular. Social sharing of all types of media is obviously popular. Group coupons through Groupon-style sites are popular. It is only a matter of time before the power of group buying and mobile coupons is intertwined with the type of social media sharing that IntoNow is already starting to offer. What a smart way to start saving money today!
