Summer is looming with its bathing suits, bare arms and short skirts. I’ve already given you some tips to get in shape without spending a dime, but if you’ve got a little dough to spend on becoming less doughy yourself, here are a few options around or under $30.
Fitness DVDs
For between $8 and $20, you can snag yourself a booty-kickin’ workout that appeals to your own form of fitness. If you want someone who’s going to work your body and coach you through a toning circuit, Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is a great bet. Looking for something a little more fun and playful? Yoga Booty Ballet will have you sweating and shimmying in no time. The possibilities are endless and many workout DVDs have more than one routine on them, ensuring you won’t get bored.
Video Games
It’s worth pointing out that fitness video games are only a reasonably priced option if you already own a gaming system – but who doesn’t these days? Wii Fit is possibly the best known video game fitness system, and the games available for it are endless. Much like the aforementioned DVDs, you can get games for whatever kind of workout you want, from yoga to dance classes. A good tip to save some cash is to look at older releases, which are often closer to $10, rather than $40. For example, Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout is only $15 on Amazon. Some reasonably priced fitness options for Xbox are Yourself Fitness, or Zumba Fitness. Playstation users can work up a sweat with celebs in Get Fit with Mel B or Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2010, among others.
Equipment Kits
These babies are perfect if you want a little more resistance and some workout equipment but aren’t sure where to start. They usually come with some combination of resistance bands, light weights or a swiss ball, as well as instructions on what types of exercises you can do with all your fancy new stuff. Depending on what sort of at-home workout you’re looking for, you can always spend more to get additional equipment, but for $30 or less you’ll cover the basics. Gaiam seems to offer the widest range of options, but you can find sets by Gold’s Gym, Men’s Health and many others.
Introductory Offers
Lots of fitness studios have deals for new members, and oftentimes you can get a week or two of workouts at a substantial discount. Yogaworks has over a dozen locations in southern California, 9 in the LA area, and they offer 2 weeks of unlimited yoga for $30. Normally, one class on its own could cost $20. The Bar Method studios also usually offer a special rate for the first 30 days. Checking around in your area could yield a wealth of opportunities, and if you happen to have lots of different studios at your fingertips, you could ride that intro rate wave for a while.
So there you have it – skip your daily latte for a week and use that money to get yourself leaner in time for summer. If you happen to be one of the lucky few with disposable income you can use to get fit fast, check back for some spendy, trendy and effective workouts coming up next!

It is time to keep the weight off to show off those legs. I love dvds because you have any excuse because you could always take a portable player with you.
I love dvd. This is how I started on my journey when I decided to loose the weight. Sun or shine, you can always excercise.
