It couldn't be more appropriate to take a last look at my men's NCAA basketball bracket on April Fool's Day. Judging by their performance, I was a fool to choose most of the teams I chose to make it even as far as the Sweet 16.
The team I picked to win it all lost...in the first round. And my bracket imploded from there.
It wasn't pretty.
I've only got one team in the Final Four, and as the painful reality sets in that I won't be winning any basketball pools this year, my bracket printout is being buried deeper and deeper in the pile of permission slips, track-team schedules, receipts and leftover Pinewood Derby certificates that is accumulating on my desk. But it's not like I care anymore about the winner.
Maybe next year I'll actually pay a little more attention to the teams during the course of the regular season before making my bracket picks.
