Before you go shopping for over-the-counter medication or vitamins again, you might want to get your eyes checked.  That's because there's plenty of small print to read--and you don't want to skip that small print.

I went to the pharmacy last week to purchase multivitamins.  There are so many varieties available that I took the opportunity to read the labels on several brands and types of vitamins.  One new category of vitamins are titled "Active Metabolism."  Sounds good to me!  As a person who spends a decent chunk of the day sitting at a desk, I thought that my metabolism could use a little boost.

But it wasn't extra vitamins B and C that were included in this bottle of vitamins.  Instead, these multis were fortified with caffeine and guarana--caffeine equivalent to a cup of coffee as well as extra guarana, a caffeine source in itself.

I'm guessing that it's not a good idea to take these vitamins at bedtime.

Caffeine sensitivity is a problem for me.  I've learned, over the years, how much "high-test" coffee and Pepsi I can have before I start shaking and bouncing off the walls.  At that point it's too late to switch over to decaf and 7-Up.  But adding one of these "active metabolism" vitamins to my morning cup of half-caff would probably put me over the edge.  I'm glad I read the label so that I could move on to another variety of multivitamin that only contains vitamins.

So make sure your reading glasses or contacts let you see all the fine print before your next vitamin purchase!
