You know good customer service when you see it--and chances are that good service is a big part of what keeps you coming back to a particular store.  The "Soup Nazi" is the only merchant I've ever heard of who made great money despite his questionable business practices of yelling at guests in his restaurant.  Really, how many people can keep a business afloat when they routinely refuse to serve customers who offend them by showing up without exact change?

Recently, the blog at personal-finance company Mint offered some suggestions on how to get top-notch customer service.  A couple of them are not surprising:  a professional look, for example, rather than sloppy-casual, will usually result in better treatment by store clerks.  Another unsurprising idea was the suggestion to use good manners.  You catch more flies with honey, and all that.

But if you're really interested in getting the best service, you might want to consider bringing a camera.  If someone thinks that you might photograph or worse, videotape an example of poor service, they're more likely to do the right thing.  Unless, of course, they're the "Soup Nazi."
