We usually divide our Christmas celebration into three days of fun: Christmas Eve with my husband's extended family, Christmas Day at home,
and the day after Christmas with my extended family. We call this one "Christmas: The Day After."
This year, my family got a blizzard for Christmas, so we postponed our "Day After" celebration for a week. The lack of snowstorm made the long northward trip a lot easier. As easy as it can be, that is, with an eight-year-old whose sport of choice in the car is kicking the seat in front of him. And whose hobby is chewing gum, loudly, which drives his sister completely around the bend. Let's not forget the 47 times he asked, "Are we almost there?" or variants thereof--before we even left our own county. (For the record, we drive through at least 7 of New Jersey's 21 counties on the way to my parents' home.)
It's times like those that we wish our older son had continued with his flying lessons--and that we owned a private plane. He could have us up in the Great White North in 1/3 the time.
Maybe I'll have to keep encouraging my husband to buy those lottery tickets.
