Will it snow? More importantly, will it snow enough? That's the big question that comes along every time a winter storm is forecast.
Suddenly kids who could care less about current events are switching on the all-news radio station, hoping to hear those sweet, sweet words: "Winter Storm Warning."
Snow days are great for kids--less so for moms. On Tuesday of this week, all the schools had a delayed opening due to an overnight ice storm. The roads were pretty clear by 9:30, so the delayed opening was a good call. But while my entire family got to sleep in (even my husband, whose office also opened late on Tuesday), I was the one who answered the two 5:30 AM phone calls.
No matter how hard you try, you just can't go back to sleep after the phone rings at 5:30. Even if you know perfectly well that the early call is because of a weather emergency, not a death in the family.
They all slept until 8 AM, while I went downstairs to watch the morning news footage of road crews spreading salt and reporters demonstrating just how slippery icy sidewalks can be. Because in Philadelphia, "The Big Story" is always the snow.
