Whenever I get a department-store gift card, the first place I head to on the store's website is the shoe section--even if I don't need any shoes.

What am I saying?  I always need new shoes.  Along with books, coffee, chocolate, and big handbags, shoes are among the essentials of life as I know it.  It's not like I keep secrets from my husband, but I know he has absolutely no clue how many pairs of shoes I actually own.

That's because he doesn't get the thing about shoes--or books, chocolate, and big handbags.  (As for coffee, he just considers it the most efficient caffeine source he can stomach.)  He's a guy.  He has one pair of dress shoes, two pairs of sneakers (one black, one white), and a pair of flip-flops.  And he doesn't have any sisters, so this is all a big mystery to him.

I'm not hiding anything, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him.  All I know is, when my feet are happy, I'm happy.
