There have been times when I've been happy to have a GPS to bail me out of bad traffic situations, but most of the time I prefer to rely on my own sense of direction and familiar routes.

When I do use the GPS, I prefer to keep the sound turned off.  I don't enjoy being nagged by a machine to go a particular way.

Even if it is doing the nagging in a British accent.

Why does my GPS have that accent, anyway?  I imagine that they don't sell this particular model in Britain, since it only allows me to select from US states, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to be taking a road trip to the Virgin Islands.  Canada's more likely, but once I cross the border, I'd be on my own, since Garmin's maps apparently don't cover it.
