We've been invited to visit some cousins later today, and when I accepted the invitation, I asked the hostess what I could contribute to the party meal.
"Whatever you like," was her answer.
That's way too open-ended for me. While I appreciate that I get to make the choice myself, thus eliminating anything that wouldn't withstand the 2-hour drive to this party, I'd at least like to be given a category. Should I bring an entree? Salad? Soup? Dessert?
I thought I had a good idea when I decided to bring a double batch of "Granma's Rolls." Everyone in the family loves them, and while none of us can exactly duplicate Granma's special touch, I think these come pretty close. But I need four hours to make them. They can't be made a day ahead. And since that huge snowstorm put a big dent in our Sunday plans to see my extended family, it's possible that we'll be leaving here earlier than planned so we can visit at my mom's house before heading over to the Cousin Party. So much for those four hours.
I guess it's back to the drawing board.
