My mom called the other day to ask if my kids want to keep any of the toys she's got in her family room.  When the kids were little, we kept a few favorite toys over at Mom and Dad's so that there would always be something for the kids to play with when they visited.  Now that the youngest grandchild is going on nine years old, those Fisher-Price toys and baby blocks aren't very interesting anymore.

My kids have plenty of their own toys that they hoard want to keep.  Mr. College Student has his Fisher-Price castle, complete with knights.  Miss Freshman kept her American Girl doll.  And the Legos, Tinker Toys, and Lincoln Logs are still in use by Mr. Third Grader and his friends.  So the last thing I wanted to do was add more toys to the mix.

But there was one thing I asked my mom to keep, promising to take it home the next time I go there to visit.  That's my Fisher-Price one-room schoolhouse.  I got that toy when I was six or seven years old, and it's one of the only toys from my childhood that didn't get broken or passed along to friends or cousins.  It's missing some of the people and furniture, but it's just as dear to me as my dog-eared set of Little House books.
