What were you doing 12 years ago today?
Were you obsessively
stocking your basement with generators and bottled water, awaiting the end of the world as we know it because no computer anywhere could handle the four-digit year designation? A little bit of that was happening at my house, because my computer-programmer husband was not convinced that information systems in the transportation and energy-distribution world were ready.
I remember watching Sydney, Australia's New Year's Eve celebration, which took place in the middle of the day here. Boy, was it a relief when the lights didn't go out on the Land Down Under during that party.
After that, we all relaxed a little. And then we got busy drinking all that bottled water. I needed the space in the basement for more important stuff, like the Christmas decorations.
