There are plenty of crafty people out there who make homemade Christmas gifts.
I'm not one of them.
I'm just not good at that sort of thing. But I love receiving handmade items that are crafted with love. I think that dates back to my childhood.
One of my grandmothers had five children and 15 grandchildren. That's a lot of presents every Christmas. While she did make the effort to give each of them a gift they would enjoy, she also worked all year long to make every one of her children, children-in-law, and grandkids a pair of hand-knit mittens.
For me, Granma's handmade mittens were better than whatever other gift she got at a store. I looked forward to that new pair of mittens every year. While the gift was not a surprise, it was always a pleasure to receive. Over the years, I got blue mittens, purple mittens, white mittens and I don't know how many other colors. Granma passed away over 16 years ago, but I've still got a few pairs of those mittens. They don't just warm my hands, but my heart as well.
