We're readers around here--even my husband, who is no fan of my "book clutter."  So it's no surprise that when our kids were little, we accumulated quite a collection of Christmas storybooks.  In fact, if you stack up our book collection against our Christmas-movie collection, the books outnumber DVDs three to one.

Sure, we like our movies.  There are some movies that we'd never miss.  But those Christmas stories that we shared with our kids between their baby years and early-elementary school are certainly special too.

I kept those storybooks in a special basket.  They were not mixed in with our other children's books.  Instead, they were put away until after Thanksgiving.  That made the books all the more welcome to the kids when we did bring out those books.

Now that Mr. Third Grader is a third-grader, he's not into those kids' books anymore.  And the other kids are way too old to want to read them.  So for the first time, this year is the first year that we haven't brought out that book basket and settled down for Christmas stories.

I guess we'll just have to put those books away until we become grandparents.  I'm not in any hurry for that to happen, though.
