Last week I pulled out my sock drawer.  It was getting pretty messy in there, and I wanted to make sure that my warm socks for winter were within easy reach.

There was more in that drawer than just socks, though.  I found several envelopes and sandwich bags in there, each containing a single baby tooth.

I'm not even sure which kid owned most of these teeth, though some bags are labeled with a child's name.  What am I supposed to do with these things?

I know why they're there in the first place.  The Tooth Fairy does not have an easy job.  She has to remember to get in under a newly-toothless child's pillow--a child who can sleep through a thunderstorm but who manages to hear two quarters rattling together in the Tooth Fairy's bathrobe pocket.  And she has to be able to find the tooth in the dark, even when it drops down behind the bed or is shoved so far under the pillow that she can't get her arm in that far. In my house, at least, the Tooth Fairy is seriously negligent if the tooth-loser finds not only a cash reward but also the tooth under his pillow in the morning.  Then she'd better hide that tooth well, so it's not discovered by a child the second he leaves his room.  Try explaining that away before you've had your first cup of coffee.
