I have a new respect for professional basketball. The court has just been declared a No-Whining Zone.
No longer will players be permitted to whine, pout, argue with the referee, stomp their feet or otherwise exhibit behavior more appropriate for three-year-olds than seven-foot-tall men. If they whine, they'll be slapped with a technical foul.
That goes for the folks on the bench as well. The word here: Respect Your Ref!
I've long been a basketball fan, but I really only watch college hoops. This year, though, I'll watch some Sixers games with Mr. Third Grader, if only out of curiosity: how will this work? How many technicals can a team with one bad sport rack up during a single game?
I'm also curious if this new expectation of decent behavior from highly-paid professional ballplayers will filter into other sports as well. What's a hockey game without a fight or two, or a baseball game without a manager kicking dust at the umpires?
