There's nothing like an original.
In their continuing quest for the
championship of the "Punchbuggy Game" (also known as the "Bruise Your Siblings Game"), my kids are sure to notice any Volkswagen beetle that drives by.
Mr. Third Grader was defeated in this game last week--tripped up by a couple of vintage "bugs" that passed us on the road. He didn't realize that those were also "punchbuggies;" indeed, the original ones.
"There's nothing like those," I told him. I mentioned that three relatives had Beetles in the '70s, and that I'd spent plenty of childhood hours riding around in them. He was unimpressed, preferring the new, modern versions.
Those remakes are cute, I think, but there's nothing like those retro models that are bright, shiny, and lovingly restored. I'd love the chance to drive one.
