At the beginning of the school year, the PTA at Mr. Third Grader's school sent home a list of the upcoming fund-raisers.

It was a long list.

I counted--there are no less than 15 fund-raisers scheduled between the beginning of the school year and Christmas, and a total of at least 25 for the year.  That doesn't include things they haven't scheduled yet.

Since I've got kids in two different schools now, there are fund-raisers coming out of my ears.  Everybody's got their hand out for something.  My kids were I was shilling football lottery tickets, wrapping paper and candy for the grade school and magazines for the high school all at one time.

The high-school magazine drive is a high-incentive event, offering kids the chance to earn cash, packs of M&Ms (the most-coveted prize), dress-down days and even days off from school.  I don't agree with that one, since I pay a lot of money for my daughter to attend that school, but the offer is out there.  Fortunately, she wasn't working hard to sell magazines, so she didn't earn the day off.  But her older brother's friend let us know that his mom and her friend were interested in continuing some magazines subscriptions they'd brought from him when he was a student there.  Since they live 15 minutes away, and were doing my child a favor, I said I'd drop off the magazine packet so they could fill out the forms.  I grabbed a big envelope from the Large Pile of Fundraiser Information on my desk, tossed it into the car, and got all the way to their house before I realized that I had the wrapping-paper envelope with me.  Back home I went; that's half an hour I'll never get back.

I told my daughter that she owed me a bag of M&Ms for my trouble.  She earned 6, so it was only right that I got one, since I did all the work, and she got all the credit (and most of the candy).
