Leave it to a little kid to pick a pumpkin so big that he can't carry it by himself--so big, in fact, that he and his friend can't carry it
together. That's exactly what happened over the weekend when Mr. Third Grader's buddy invited him to go along on a family trip to the farmer's market for pumpkins and other Halloween decorations.
While Mr. Third Grader complained that his friend had gotten the biggest pumpkin, he managed to get a pretty big one for himself as well. But his friend's dad didn't stop here and drop off my son and his basketball-sized pumpkin. Instead, he continued down the street and unloaded the car at his house.
Then the boys had to figure out how to get the pumpkin up the hill to our house. Fortunately, there were plenty of skateboards at this boy's home. So the two kids wrestled that pumpkin onto the skateboard and, together, pushed it up the hill to our front door. They managed to avoid at least one near-disaster, according to my neighbor; she said that at one point the skateboard tipped and the pumpkin came close to rolling off. It's a good thing that didn't happen, or my neighbor would be up to her eyeballs in pumpkin pie by now.
