One recent weekend, we invited a bunch of friends over for a potluck dinner.  Each family was asked to bring one dish and one beverage.  As the hosts, we provided a main dish, bread, and all the partyware.

It's a good thing that I buy things like that in bulk--there was no last-minute run to the store for paper plates or plastic forks.  All I had to do was bring everything up from the pantry, send my husband out for ice, and we were party-ready.  After that, we just took the lids off all the crockpots and ate--and ate.

There was no question that we'd have enough food.  Everyone brought enough to feed their own families and then some.  But the best part of the evening came after dinner, when my older son built a campfire and all the kids gathered around to make s'mores.
