I had no idea that dogs and cats enjoy Trick-or-Treat as much as kids do. All this time, I thought that Trick-or-Treat would be dangerous for dogs, as it involves chocolate (delicious for humans, toxic for dogs.)
Apparently I was wrong. Way wrong. Target seems to stock as many Halloween costumes for pets as they do for toddlers. And when I stopped at Petsmart to load up on birdseed for the winter, I was tripping over Halloween displays. Not only were there all kinds of costume, ranging from hot dogs to skunks and everything in between, but there were specially-shaped dog treats, chew toys and stuffed animals as well.
(Am I the only one who thinks there's something a little strange about finding stuffed animals for sale in a pet shop?)
There's no denying the cuteness of a little animal in costume. I'm pretty amazed that the dogs and cats will put up with the dressing and the primping involved--I've never known a kitten who'd sit still for that kind of thing. But I think that the costumes are best reserved for the smaller animals. Could you picture a Rottweiler dressed up for Halloween? That would be a scary sight indeed.
