Things were piling up--and falling behind.  Literally.

There's a spot in the living room where I put any incoming mail that's addressed to my husband, as well as all the household bills.  It's not an attractive thing to have piling up in your living room, let me tell you.  Especially when the pile of mail gets too tall and starts to fall back behind the picnic basket it's sitting on.

The theory behind the picnic basket was simple.  I'd put the day's mail on top.  My husband would sort it and open it, putting any "keepers" inside the basket.  But in reality, he never opened the basket, so the stack of opened and unopened mail would just sit on the top until it tipped over.

Finally we both had had enough of this.  His tipping point (pun intended) was when an unopened birthday card containing money fell behind that basket and stayed there for more than a week.  It probably would have stayed there longer if he hadn't been looking through the pile for a bill he knew was due soon.

So he asked me to work out a different system.  Now he's got a set of inboxes on his computer desk here.  The bottom one is marked "BILLS" and that's all that goes in it.  All other mail goes into the top one.

I'm thinking I might need to rearrange those inboxes, though.  The top one is already overflowing, and it's only been about a week.  If it's on the bottom, it can only get so full before he'll have to deal with his junk mail.
