Who says Halloween is just for the kids? I know plenty of adults who get as much (or more) enjoyment out of this holiday as the kids do.
I'll admit that I'm one of them--any holiday based almost entirely on the collection of candy is a great holiday in my book. The only thing that threatens to spoil my enjoyment of Halloween is that my kids have all figured out that Milky Ways are, indeed, delicious. They all used to donate any Milky Ways and Whoppers they got to the candy bowl I conveniently leave on the table, but those days are over. It'll be nothing but Whoppers and Milk Duds in that bowl this year.
Certainly costumes--and costume parties--aren't just for kids anymore either. Mr. College Student has asked me to keep my eyes open for an item he needs to complete his costume. And there are plenty of adults who dress up in costume, only to stay at home and answer the door for the little trick-or-treaters who come knocking.
TheDad, for his part, enjoys the social aspect of Halloween. He likes to get together with friends or neighbors for group trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. After 12 years in this neighborhood, we've learned which block hands out the full-size Hershey bars, and the kids always plan to hit that block first. This year, Halloween is on a Sunday, so TheDad is primed to get an early start on the action. He loves to roam the neighborhood and see the faces of the people like me who stay home, answer the door, and hand out candy. And he tells the kids the same thing every year: "We're going to trick-or-treat until you can't walk anymore."
