We've got whiteboards in two rooms of the house. There are two small ones in the kitchen, which I use for things like shopping lists and writing down how long something has to cook in the oven or slow cooker. And that's where the graffiti started.
My daughter's BFF loves to doodle cute little penguins, and whenever she visits, she makes sure that there's a penguin drawn on my kitchen whiteboard. Not to be outdone, other friends of my daughter have started cartooning around my shopping list or just noting things like "Sabrina was here."
On the much-larger whiteboard in the family room, we'll get full-size cartoons of pyramids, dragons, monsters and other animals. Last week, my daughter left a note: "Dear Dinos, Sorry I crashed your party. Love, the Meteor." Our ten-year-old neighbor couldn't let that one go by unanswered. Her response: "Dear Meteor, Apology accepted. Glad you dropped in. Love, the Dinos." We were pretty impressed that, at ten years old, our neighbor has a good handle on puns.
The good thing about all this graffiti, in addition to the comic relief it provides, is that it's completely--and easily--erasable. So the kids get to have their fun without damaging anything.
