It's time, once again, for Back to School Night at the high school.  They hold two of these a year, since the kids are on a block schedule; in January they get a whole new slate of classes and teachers.  I should be a pro at this event by now.

While I don't get lost in the halls anymore, I haven't become any more secure about the whole dress-code thing.  Since I write from home, I don't dress in office-appropriate clothing all day long.  But most parents of high-school-age children are coming straight from work to Back to School Night, and they're dressed in business-casual or nicer.  I, on the other hand, have been in a t-shirt and capris all day.

So twice a year, I stress about how I'll dress for Back to School Night.  I stand in front of the closet and wonder about what I should wear.   As if I'll see anyone I even know.  As if anyone sitting in a semidark auditorium listening to a spiel about why we want to participate in the Magazine Salecares about what shoes I have on.

But then we wander around, following our kids' schedule so we can meet the teachers.  And we sit there in the students' desks with our handbags on the desktops. I see a lot of cool handbags at these things, let me tell you.  Maybe I don't need to stress so much about what I wear, as what I carry.  Or I could make it easy on myself and just slip my wallet and keys into my pocket!
