The cost of education is getting higher--and the price of textbooks is no exception.  I've had to buy books for my son all through his high-school years, so looking for the best deal on textbooks wasn't exactly new to me.

Fortunately, the Textbook Affordability Provisions, part of the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, went into effect July 1.  This means that colleges are expected to provide the title, author, and ISBN of all required textbooks at registration, so that students can plan ahead of the expense and shop for the best deal.

How did that work out for us?  Fairly well--except for the one course whose professor didn't bother to post any textbook requirements in his syllabus but instead waited until the second day of class to announce the mandatory (and quite pricey) book.  My son was able to find an alternative source for the text, but it was still an expense he wasn't planning on.

Yes, there are still ways to save money on your education--you just need to know where to look to find them!
