Every afternoon between 5:30 and 6 I drive over to the high school and pick up my daughter.  She waits at the school's "carport" area adjacent to the athletes' locker rooms.  When I drive up, I see bunches of students all engaged in the same activity.

They're all on their cell phones, but nobody's talking.

Nobody's talking to each other, either.  Twenty or thirty kids are all sitting or standing around, waiting for rides home, and texting.

Once in a while someone will pass around their phone and show off a photo they've taken, but most of the time these kids aren't interacting with anything but the tiny keyboards on their phones.

I guess I should give them a break, since these kids have just finished two or three hours of sports practice--but I do find it funny.  Maybe I should just consider it a "cool-down" exercise as they work out the small-motor muscles in their thumbs?
