It was starting to feel like fall around here, at least for a couple of days. But as we mark the beginning of autumn around midnight tonight, we in the northeast are experiencing summer weather. 
I want to see colored leaves on the trees! Already the farm stands are loaded up with cornstalks and pumpkins and baskets of apples. But the kids are running around in shorts and tank tops and wishing that everyone hadn't already closed their pools for the season.
One friend of mine has decided to fake it. In the absence of autumn weather, she's brought the season into her home decor by using acorns and other fall-related items in her decorating. As she put it, she's pretending it's fall.
I could pretend, too--but we've got a shortage of oak trees around here. For that matter, we've got a shortage of trees around here! While I don't mind that the huge evergreen on my front lawn doesn't create a big pile of leaves for me to rake, I do miss seeing those leaves turn color and finding acorns on the ground--and watching the squirrels and chipmunks hoard and hide those acorns.
