There are a lot of toys around my house, but most of them are of the "boy" variety. We've got light sabers, swords and shields, and Nerf guns galore. 
But when we had a backyard barbecue for the Cub Scout leaders and their families, I was at a loss for things to entertain the scouts' little sisters. It's been quite a long time--10 years, in fact--since I've had a preschool-age girl around here.
Once it got too dark to run around the backyard with swords and light sabers, everyone came inside to play. All the boys got busy playing Mario Kart on the Wii, and the little girls had nothing to do.
Fortunately, I have a few toys here that all my kids--boy or girl--enjoyed playing with. In no time at all, the two little girls were happily building houses with the Lincoln Logs. There's nothing like the classic toys to keep kids busy and entertained.
