Fall is my very favorite season.  Not only does it have Halloween and Thanksgiving, holidays I enjoy because both are centered on some of my favorite foods, but it's also the time when nature's most brilliant colors come out to play.

I just love looking at the changing colors on the trees in fall.  That's why I got a little worried when I saw that there are already trees in my neighborhood that are completely bare of leaves, and others whose leaves turned brown, shriveled up, and stayed on the branches since late July.

So I did a little research into the science behind how leaves change color.  One scientist predicts that if you had a hot, dry summer, the fall leaves in your area should be extremely colorful.  Another commented that in early fall, a combination of warm, sunny days and cool, crisp nights make for excellent displays of color as well.

I also learned that if your area experienced a drought in late spring or summer, it's likely that the fall color in your area will be delayed a week or two past its usual peak time.

What does this mean?  For me, in the Northeast, it means that I've got a few more weeks to enjoy the lovely weather before I get to see some of the best fall color ever.

It also means that it's time to get my camera ready!
