I recently described how my mom calls here for computer tech support (and to complain about computers in general.)  But last week the tables were turned around here.  Mr. College Bound got the laptop he'll be taking to school next week.

Until he opened that box, I was the only one in the house with a Windows 7 machine.  I'll admit it--that made me feel pretty special.  My husband thought I'd hate Windows 7, given my history of frustration over changes in operating systems *cough*Windows95*cough*, and sent me to the bookstore to get a book to help me figure things out.  That book is sitting here collecting dust on my desk--I've opened it maybe twice in the three months I've been using Windows 7.

So I thought I'd get to be the resident expert on Windows 7.  That lasted all of about five minutes.  Before I knew it, Mr. College Bound was bragging about how he'd changed the default background and set the fade limits and done all kinds of other things to customize his laptop before he'd even signed on to Facebook.

Naturally, I made him come over here and show me how to do all this stuff that he figured out how to do in the first five minutes, but I didn't even know you could do.  Then he showed me some good ways to preserve the battery life in my laptop.

What am I going to do after next week when I need tech support?  Good thing he'll only be a text message away.

(While I was writing this, a strange icon appeared on the bottom of my screen.  It was Windows Help.  I have no idea how it got there.  Spooky!)
