It's never a good sign when you drop off your car for maintenance at the auto dealership, only to receive a phone call later in the day that a necessary part is backordered and it will take two weeks to arrive.
"So I guess I can't drive the car home tonight?" I sighed.
At that point I was offered the use of a loaner vehicle, since the car is still under warranty. That sounded good to me--so good, in fact, that I informed my husband that he could have my car to drive to work, and I'd drive the loaner. Wasn't that generous of me?
Hardly generous at all, actually. I was just hoping for something a little more, well, fun than the minivan I usually drive.
Normally I don't mind driving the van, but it gets a little old sometimes. I was going to pick up the loaner in the morning, so I spent the whole evening dreaming about what kind of car they'd be letting me drive for the next two weeks. A sporty SUV? A boxy "mobile device?" My college-days dream car, a Volkswagen Cabriolet convertible?
Not highly likely, but it was fun to think about. When I returned to the dealership and was handed the keys to a base-model sedan, I immediately reclaimed my old familiar minivan and sent my husband off to work in the boring loaner. After all, I had all my favorite radio stations preset in the van already.
