Last school year, Mr. Third Grader went through three lunchboxes without ever losing one. I couldn't understand how his lunchboxes were getting so beat-up--and so dirty--in the course of a normal school day. My other kids had managed to lose theirs rather than destroying them. 
The mystery was solved when I showed up at school one day during the lunch period. On my way into the building to volunteer in the library, I saw my son and his class playing an exciting game of kickball. Even their teacher got into the game. Kids were jumping around everywhere in their excitement. As I watched my son take his turn as the kicker, I noticed that one of his classmates was jumping up and down on second base, which looked suspiciously like my son's lunchbox.
That explained everything.
For this year, I'm looking for a much sturdier model. Maybe one made of Kryptonite.
