One of the side effects of a sports injury can be the necessity of crutches.  My husband and daughter know this very well; they share an ankle weakness that can get in the way of their enjoyment of their favorite sports (and, in my husband's case, put an early end to his cross-country running).

The last time my husband had an ankle injury, a neighbor came over with a walker that he could borrow to make getting in and out of the shower a little easier.  The kids had other plans for it--and the crutches as well.  I was ready to hide the crutches after someone suggested using them as pole-vaulting tools.  My younger son attached his favorite toy sword to the walker and pretended it was a chariot, while the older two, anxiously awaiting their turns, tried to vault over the front of it.  When that didn't work, they resorted to balancing on basketballs, using the walker rails for balance, and rolled through the kitchen that way.

Should I invest in a personal X-ray machine now, and keep a radiologist on retainer?

I guess I should just be grateful that my children are healthy and able-bodied enough to be able to do this without injuring themselves.

But I'm definitely not going to give in to my daughter's wish for a trampoline!
