Back-to-school time, that is. 
I've heard that the lucky folks in the Deep South will be sending their kids back to school before the month is out. Here in New Jersey, however, we're not so fortunate. We've got more than six weeks left of summer vacation.
My daughter's not usually in a very big hurry to return to school, but she starts high school this fall. While she's not entirely anxious to wear her new school uniforms, she is looking forward to the opportunity to make new friends, try new activities, and be a part of the field-hockey team.
As for Mr. Third Grader, he's been ready to go back to school since the day after school let out. He's a social butterfly; as I write this, he has one friend visiting and is bugging me to let him invite three or four more. He misses the opportunity to see all his buddies every day.
While I don't miss the whole packing-lunchboxes thing, never mind the every-morning Yellathon as I try to get everyone out the door before the school bus passes them by, I'd be lying if I said I was wishing this summer would stretch on forever. I'm looking forward to quiet after 8 AM--not Sportscenter with my eight-year-old. I will not miss that summer-morning ritual--not one bit.
